NPFL19 Match Day Two Preview: Niger Tornadoes Vs Rivers United.

“If you want to achieve success in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), you must start well. If you don’t then, you have yourselves to blame,” Stanley Eguma, long serving technical manager of Rivers United FC said in his preview notes as “The Pride of Rivers” prepare to get their season underway in Minna on Wednesday.

United will face Niger Tornadoes at the Bako Kontagora Stadium in their first game of the season.

The Port Harcourt side drew bye on match day one as their opponents, Remo Stars is one of four newly-promoted sides (Bendel Insurance, Kada Stars and Gombe United are the other three) given special dispensation to have their first two NPFL games postponed.

Getting a positive result against Tornadoes will be anything but straightforward as the Minna club, also yet to play any game so far this term, will be super motivated to register on the board.

Captain of United, Festus Austine wants a solid display on Wednesday.

“We want a positive result in Minna on Wednesday because we want to take a good position on the log as quickly as possible,” Austine told the club’s official website,

Rivers United’s away form in the league in recent seasons have left a lot to be desired while Tornadoes have one of the strongest home records in Nigeria’s top division.

If the Port Harcourt darlings are to get any joy in Minna on Wednesday, then a big performance from Eguma’s charges must be produced.
