Rivers Utd edge past SKE to reach FA Cup final

Guy Kuemian and Daniel Israel scored second half goals to power Rivers United past SKE FC and into the final of the 2017 Rivers State FA Cup.

United bossed proceedings for long periods but failed to make the breakthrough in a first half of few clear-cut openings.

They had to wait until the hour mark to take the lead through Kuemian who prodded home from close range in opportunistic fashion after SKE failed to clear their lines following a free kick delivered by Obomate Frederick.

Israel netted United’s second, nine minutes from time in brilliant fashion from an acute angle to seemingly put the tie to bed.

Unheralded SKE however set up a grand stand finish with a late goal that set the cat amongst the pigeons but United held out for the win.

United’s technical manager, Stanley Eguma expressed satisfaction with the win in a post-match interview with our official website, www.riversunitedfc.com.ng.

“We did well today and deserved the win. Now we will set our sights on doing even better than we did last year in the Federation Cup,” he said.

Rivers United and Cynosure FC will meet in the final of the Rivers State FA Cup to decide on who claims the toga of champions of the competition.

The two clubs will represent Rivers State in the 2017 Federation Cup.
