PREVIEW: Rivers United in Equatorial Guinea: Plenty Of Reasons For Eguma To Be Cheerful

A rare reason to be positive for Stanley Eguma at the moment.

In 2 daunting trips to Equatorial Guinea, Coach Stanley Eguma led troop, the defunct Dolphins football club of Port Harcourt only lost on one occasion – and that only defeat led to a penalty shoot-out in the 2nd leg which Dolphins won.

Having led Dolphins FC to a comprehensive 6-0 win over two legs against Sony Ela Nguema in a CAF Champions League competition in 2012, the Pride of Rivers were beaten in Malabo 1-0 to set the tone for a huge second leg in Port Harcourt where they needed to score at least two goals to advance.

Emeka Atuloma gave Dolphins a first half lead in the tension soaked encounter but were unable to add the second as the game dragged into penalty shootout.

During the kicks, goalkeeper Sunday Rotimi’s experience proved valuable as he saved Guy Yannace’s spot kick after Tijani Adamu and Emeka Atulouma had converted theirs.
