The General Manager of Rivers United FC, Chief Okey Kpalukwu has commended the League Management Company (LMC) on the successful and extremely professional handling of the draw for the 2017/18 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.
The draw for the 2017/2018 NPFL season was conducted at the Bristol Palace Hotel in Kano on Sunday 17 December, 2017 with Rivers United FC facing El Kanemi Warriors in the opening weekend of the season.
Speaking to our official website, www.riversunitedfc.com.ng shortly after the draw, Kpalukwu said the LMC showed professionalism and astuteness in the proceedings describing the draw ceremony as the best so far.
Chief Kpalukwu added that he is optimistic that the new season will bring lots of excitement amongst clubs and fans alike as the Mallam Shehu Dikko-led LMC continues to lay down the marker with positive innovations aimed at making the domestic one of the best on the continent.
When asked about his expectations from his side this season, Chief Kpalukwu, who represented RUFC at the draw ceremony in Kano urged fans to get behind the team when the league season kicks off and assured that with all the support given to the team by the State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike CON, GSSRS, Sports Commissioner, Hon Boma Iyaye and all stakeholders of sports in Rivers State, Rivers United FC will accomplish set objectives in the upcoming campaign.
Rivers United will face El Kanemi Warriors coached by Imama Amapkakabo at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in their opening fixture of the 2017/2018 NPFL season on January 14.
